The Challenge
As part of their career and technical education initiatives, Jefferson County Schools is dedicated to preparing students for successful careers in the physical therapy and rehabilitation fields. To provide a truly comprehensive educational experience, the school needed to create a realistic, safe, and ergonomically sound training environment.
Students practicing patient transfers, stretching routines, mobilization techniques, and floor exercises require a supportive surface. Standard hard classroom flooring – while easy to maintain – causes joint fatigue over long periods and poses a safety risk during dynamic physical therapy training. The school needed a professional-grade flooring solution that could transform a standard classroom into a cutting-edge clinical training lab.
The Solution
To meet the specific needs of their physical therapy curriculum, Jefferson County Schools partnered with SmartCells to install a dedicated, professional-grade training zone.
The installation features 432 square feet of SmartCells Training and Therapy flooring in a sleek, professional grey. Powered by SmartCells’ unique cushioning technology, the surface acts like a typical stable floor for walking and rolling equipment, but optimally compresses to absorb impact and reduce joint fatigue when students are kneeling, standing for long periods, or performing floor work.
To integrate the new training area seamlessly into the existing classroom, the installation included 72 linear feet of 3.5″ grey transition ramps.

The new SmartCells installation has successfully upgraded the Jefferson County Schools lab into a state-of-the-art training facility.
