Foot or Back Pain? Ditch Your Flip-Flops

It’s that time of year again. You know: flip-flop season. As the weather gets consistently nicer you can expect to see more people wearing sandals or flip-flops.

Considering they are easy to put on, allow the feet to enjoy some air and can get wet, flip-flops seem to be the perfect footwear for this time of year. However, the ease of use and low price can come at a high cost.

Due to the lack of support and the fact that most flip flops are made from foam or gel materials, they often cause many users to experience foot, ankle and leg pain, including tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and even stress fractures. Perhaps, even more disturbing is a 2009 study conducted by the University of Miami which found that one pair of flip-flops can house more than 18,000 different types of bacteria.

We say it’s time to ditch the flip-flops and invest in a new pair of SmartCells insoles to keep your feet, ankles and legs comfortable all Summer long.

SmartCells anti-fatigue insoles utilize the same technology that has long been trusted by major companies such as Boeing, Amazon, Eaton Corporation and many more as an anti-fatigue mat and flooring solution for standing workers.

Ergonomically designed to relieve discomfort from prolonged activity, the unique SmartCells act like springs that cushion and return energy.

SmartCells® anti-fatigue insoles easily slip into most shoes and come in two styles: flat and contoured, with options designed to provide maximum fatigue relief based on the character of the user’s daily activity.

The SmartCells Everyday and Active lines of contoured insoles are pre-molded and bio-mechanically engineered to provide additional cushion and support for optimal fatigue relief while helping prevent excessive pronation and related symptoms.

Designed for low profile comfort, the SmartCells Casual line of simple, flat insole inserts are built to provide a highly effective cushion when foot support is not needed.

For formal comfort, the SmartCells Dress insole provides all the cushion and comfort of a full-length insole but at ¾ length it is ideal for dress shoes.

  1. Interesting, I have never heard of these insoles before.  I have had foot pain from wearing flip flops though.  My foot pain doc told me I needed to stop wearing flip flops.  I bought some of those terrible looking crocs as an alternative.  Anything to help with the foot pain.

This can alleviate many of the pains that come from poor support. A professional can help fit you with custom orthotics that will keep you comfortable.

  7. My sister wore flip flops for most of her adolescence. The fact of the matter is that they’re not good for you like shoes are. The soles are quite lacking. I think that the best way to manage that pain is to prevent it. Short of that, there are therapies that you can take to fix the pain.

  8. That’s amazing! I never realized that back pain could be caused by misalignment in the foot. I guess it makes sense because the body is very much connected. When the foot is offset, it can cause a chain reaction in the body. This is good to know, thanks for sharing a possible cause and an easy fix! http://fishcreekchiropractic.ca/service/backpain/

  9. I didn’t know that flip-flops could cause back pain. That is very interesting. How do they cause back pain? I would assume it would be related to how we don’t have the proper support for our foot which then affects our back. Thank you for this information. I will most likely not wear my flip-flops as often.
