FAQ
Do SmartCells mats come in different colors?
Yes. The standard lineup includes black, grey, and light brown (with blue available for certain configurations). If you need to match company branding or a specific aesthetic, custom colors and patterns—such as high-visibility safety yellow for edge ramping—are available upon request.
Do SmartCells mats have an odor?
Because they are made of rubber, brand-new mats will have a slight rubber scent right out of the box. This typically dissipates within a few days to a couple of weeks, especially in spaces with normal air circulation.
Can SmartCells mat sections be glued together?
Yes. You can edge-glue adjacent mat sections together to create a single, seamless (monolithic) structure. However, keep the final size in mind; gluing multiple large sections together makes the final layout incredibly heavy and difficult to move later.
Do SmartCells products absorb liquid?
No. Unlike cheap foam or sponge mats that act like cellular sponges, SmartCells are engineered from 100% non-porous synthetic rubber. They cannot absorb water, liquids, or foreign matter, making them highly resistant to microbial growth and easy to sanitize.
How is SmartCells flooring cleaned?
Maintenance is remarkably straightforward. For standard mats and flooring, you can simply sweep, vacuum, or damp mop using mild soap and water.
⚠️ What to Avoid: Never use hydrocarbon solvents (like paint thinner), oil-based cleaners (like Murphy’s Oil Soap or Pine-Sol), paste wax, or vinyl protectants (like Armor All). These will degrade the rubber material or leave a dangerously slick film.
(Note: If your SmartCells are installed as an underlayment beneath carpet tiles or sheet vinyl, follow the cleaning guidelines provided by that specific top-surface manufacturer).
Do SmartCells products contain latex?
No. SmartCells products are manufactured entirely from synthetic rubber, not natural rubber. Because of this, they are 100% latex-free and safe for healthcare facilities or individuals with allergies.
How is SmartCells flooring installed?
SmartCells flooring utilizes a modular system of 3′ × 3′ tiles. Instead of being glued directly down to the subfloor, the tiles are “loose-laid” and edge-glued to one another to form a continuous, uniform surface. Transition ramps and reducers are then added to the perimeter to eliminate trip hazards. If used as a hidden underlayment, the finished flooring (like vinyl or carpet) is adhered on top using an adhesive.
How slippery are SmartCells products in the presence of liquid?
SmartCells feature an elevated coefficient of friction, meaning they inherently offer excellent traction and slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions. For high-risk or inherently wet environments, SmartCells also offers molded textured surfaces, drain-through options, and specialized anti-slip surface coatings upon request.
